“An explorer at the frontiers of sound”

Writing in the Irish Times about Seán Mac Erlaine’s new release A slender song, Cormac Larkin described the Dublin woodwind multi-instrumentalist and composer as “an explorer at the frontiers of sound, a fearless and generous experimenter who interrogates his instruments for all their sonorous possibilities”.

A slender song received an impressive four stars in the review which goes on to say that Mac Erlaine’s music takes on a new shape in the recorded format. “Shorn of the visual,” writes Larkin, “his music takes on an even more mysterious aura, creating an utterly original sonic space where free jazz and fragments of Irish trad are embraced by low hums and electronic abstraction.”
