Cellist Kate Ellis will kick off The Santa Rita Concerts, a new season of musical performances at the Little Museum of Dublin on St. Stephen’s Green, Dublin 2. Curated by Ergodos, each concert in the series is conceived to provide a unique, deeply immersive audience experience. The evenings will begin at 7pm with a Santa Rita wine reception in the museum’s first floor, and a pre-concert interview with the evening’s musicians.
We are extremely pleased to begin our concert series with a solo performance from Kate Ellis on Thursday 18 September – Chilean Independence Day (and possibly also Scottish Independence Day!)
The performance will feature specially commissioned music for cello and electronics by some of Ireland’s most exciting and diverse composers, including Adrian Hart (Yurodny), Laura Sheeran (Nanu Nanu) and Donnacha Dennehy, whose music has been described in the New York Times as ‘magnificently energetic’.
Space is extremely limited so advance booking is advised. Get your tickets here: http://ergodos.ie/event/santa-rita-concerts-kate-ellis/
Cellist Kate Ellis is a luminary of the Irish music scene. Ellis is an inspiring presence: an enormously prolific musician, her portfolio includes the artistic direction of Ireland’s foremost new music group, Crash Ensemble; work with folk-crossover ensemble Tarab; her own cross-disciplinary RESOUND project; and performances with Bobby McFerrin, Iarla Ó Lionáird, Gavin Friday and Karan Casey to name only a very few. She combines a total technical mastery of her instrument with a fluid, omnivorous musicality, performing Steve Reich with the same grace and intensity as she performs Irish or Mediterranean folk music.
The Santa Rita Concerts 2014/2015 features a distinctive and diverse mix of soloists – exciting young Irish classical performers like Kate Ellis and Michelle O’Rourke, performers who have featured on the Ergodos record label, such as traditional fiddle player Toner Quinn, as well as internationally renowned performers like Baroque violin/double bass duo Maya Homburger & Barry Guy, and the fascinating jazz group SnowPoet.
Seats are limited so early booking is advised. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Santa Rita for making possible this unique series and indeed for helping to bring music to this very special space in the heart of Dublin city.
