Rise up, my love, the debut EP from the Irish Youth Chamber Choir under conductor Greg Beardsell, has been hailed as “a triumph” by Tim Thurston, presenter of Gloria, RTÉ lyric fm‘s weekly choral music programme.
Plaudits for the EP have also come from Michael Quinn, writing for the smartphone music app Classical Ear: “As a marker of the still infant ensemble’s abilities, this first recording […] serves as a musical calling card of consummate elegance,” writes Quinn. “Howard Skempton’s titular Rise up, my love forms the centrepiece, the mixed-voice choir sensitively attuned to both its luminous beauty and the darker, bass-heavy accent of the second of its four anthems,” he continues.
